Applied Data Science Minor

The Applied Data Science Minor is an interdisciplinary university-wide undergraduate program offered by the McCourt School of Public Policy. Designed for students looking to merge substantive domain knowledge with cutting-edge analytical tools, the program provides core statistical knowledge, algorithmic thinking, and hands-on experience with real-world data science projects. Students learn to manage complex datasets, design compelling visualizations, and critically analyze the ethical dimensions of data science—such as privacy and algorithmic bias—across diverse fields.

By bridging foundational computational techniques with field-specific applications, this minor prepares students to lead with data-driven insights in both academic and professional domains

Study Abroad

Students who study abroad may transfer one approved elective course towards the Applied Data Science minor. Students wishing to transfer courses need to provide their study plans to the Minor Director prior to departure in order to identify an eligible elective course that satisfies minor requirements. Students will have to  provide detailed syllabi to the Minor Director when they return to campus for approval of transfer credit. Following a successful review, students need to complete and submit the Evaluation of Transfer Credit Form with their Advising Dean in order to successfully transfer the credits.
