Academic Policies
Additional academic policies governing the Post-Graduate Certificate program can be found in the program handbook.
Program Requirements
Students must select one of the following specializations: Family Nurse Practitioner, Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, Nurse-Midwifery, or Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner. Required credits and clinical hours vary depending upon the area of specialization. Requirements for each specialization are outlined below.
Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP)
Graduates who earn their post-master’s FNP certificate online will be qualified to manage all aspects of primary care, including wellness/prevention, and diagnosis and management of episodic and complex chronic conditions.
The FNP specialization requires a minimum of 19 course credits and 650 clinical hours.
Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AG-ACNP)
The AG-ACNP specialization prepares students to provide care for adults and older adults in settings ranging from emergency departments and acute care hospitals to long-term acute care hospitals. Students in this specialty manage a wide range of acute, critical, and complex chronic illnesses in both hemodynamically stable and unstable patients. The program prepares students to perform point of care ultrasound and perform invasive procedures such as intubation, central line insertion, thoracentesis, and lumbar punctures.
The AG-ACNP specialization requires a minimum of 16 credits and 600 clinical hours.
Nurse-Midwifery (NM)
The NM specialization prepares students to provide primary, sexual, reproductive health, antepartum, labor, birth, postpartum, and newborn care for individuals across the lifespan. With an emphasis on clinical approaches that address the holistic needs of patients while promoting health equity, the NM specialization prepares students to provide full scope midwifery care to the individuals they serve.
The NM specialization requires a minimum of 27 credits and at least 1,000 clinical hours.
Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner (WHNP)
The WHNP specialization prepares students to provide primary, sexual, and reproductive health, antepartum, and postpartum care to individuals across the life-span.
The WHNP specialization requires a minimum of 22 credits and 600-784 clinical hours.
