Program Overview

The Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) in Dubai is an advanced management program offered by Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business. Designed for senior executives, managers, and working professionals primarily within the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia (MENASA) region, the curriculum focuses on international business capabilities and strategic leadership. The educational framework integrates core business administration with an analysis of geopolitics, public policy, and ethical decision-making.

Program Structure

  • Duration and Format: A 20-month, part-time course of study structured to accommodate full-time employment.

  • Schedule: In-person class sessions convene once per month for four consecutive days (Thursday through Sunday).

  • Location: Primary cohort instruction takes place at the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) Academy, supplemented by mandatory international residencies.

Curriculum and Experiential Learning

The curriculum is divided into foundational and specialized phases, incorporating both classroom instruction and field-based applications:

  • Year One (Foundations): Focuses on core business disciplines, including decision analytics, financial accounting, global operations, supply chain management, and competitive strategy.

  • Year Two (Advanced & Regional Focus): Focuses on advanced courses addressing the intersection of business and regional geopolitics, the future of business trends, and five elective courses.

  • Residencies and Consulting: Includes three required week-long residencies. Two of these residency-based courses take place on the main Georgetown University campus in Washington, D.C. The curriculum also requires the completion of a hands-on consulting project through the Global Business Experience.

Core Subjects and Elective Domains

The program provides instruction across several foundational and emerging business sectors:

  • Core Management: Organizational behavior, leadership communication, and corporate policy-making.

  • Financial and Market Analysis: Corporate valuation, executive accounting, consumer behavior, and global industry structures.

  • Macro Environment: Public-private partnerships, global trade regulations, and non-market environments.

  • Emerging Sectors and Electives: Subject matter options include FinTech, big data management, sustainability, the future of work, and entrepreneurial finance.

Academic Policies

To maintain good academic standing and graduate, students must maintain a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.000 and earn failing grades in fewer than six credits of coursework.

The program reviews each student’s academic progress and performance after each academic term. Students experiencing academic difficulty should work with the program’s Academic Director to understand the applicable requirements, available resources, and steps needed to improve their performance.

Failure to meet the program’s academic standards may result in probation, suspension, or dismissal and may affect eligibility for program scholarships and financial aid. Students should consult the EMBA-Dubai Student Handbook for complete academic standards and procedures.
